It looks as if Justin Timberlake isn’t too happy with Britney Spears’s recent comments about him in her memoir.
For those who aren’t aware, Britney released her long-awaited book, The Woman in Me, earlier this week. And in it, she candidly reflects on her and Justin’s past three-year relationship.
Britney and Justin dated between 1999 and 2002, with their messy breakup playing out in the public eye. After they parted ways, Justin memorably insinuated that Britney had cheated on him with the release of his now-infamous song “Cry Me a River,” which featured an uncanny lookalike of her in its music video.
Justin also made several degrading comments about his and Britney’s sex life in the media, notably telling radio station Hot 97, “I did it. I'm dirty,” when he was asked if he’d had “oral intercourse” with her.
As a result, Britney, then in her early 20s, was demonized in the media and even reduced to tears in interviews as she was questioned about Justin. In spite of this, for years she stayed silent on the intimate details of their split and relationship.
But now Britney has opened up about the reality of being painted as a “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy” after she and Justin broke up.
In her tell-all book, Britney reveals that while she did cheat on Justin one time, she only did so after hearing that he’d allegedly been unfaithful himself on multiple occasions.
She writes, “There were a couple of times during our relationship when I knew Justin had cheated on me. Especially because I was so infatuated and so in love, I let it go, even though the tabloids seemed determined to rub my face in it.”
“When NSYNC went to London in 2000, photographers caught him with one of the girls from All Saints in a car. But I never said anything. At the time we’d only been together for a year,” she says.
Britney goes on to claim that on a separate occasion, she was told that Justin had gestured toward a girl and told his friends, “I hit that last night.”
“There were rumors about him with various dancers and groupies,” she writes. “I let it all go, but clearly, he’d slept around. It was one of those things where you know but you just don’t say anything.”
Elsewhere in her book, Britney reveals that she secretly had an abortion during her relationship with Justin.
Britney says that while she would have welcomed the baby, Justin felt that they “weren’t ready” to be parents, and “definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy.” She goes on to call the abortion “one of the most agonizing things” she’s ever experienced, writing that Justin attempted to comfort her by strumming his guitar while she lay on the bathroom floor “crying and sobbing.”
And Britney also comments on Justin’s controversial past image, writing that he and his band, NSYNC, were “white boys” who “tried too hard to fit in” with the Black scene. Perhaps most notably, the “Toxic” singer claims that Justin once ran into R&B artist Ginuwine and said, “Oh yeah, fo shiz, fo shiz! Ginuwine! What’s up, homie?”
All of Britney’s recent revelations have resulted in heaps of renewed backlash toward Justin, who has not addressed her book publicly.
But this week, fans noticed that Justin has pointedly disabled the comments under each of his Instagram posts.
An insider purportedly told Page Six that Justin decided to turn off his comments because of the “hateful, disgusting things people were saying” under each of his posts.
