Selena Gomez has confirmed that she’s dating music producer Benny Blanco.
On Thursday, Selena, 31, commented on a post that discussed her new relationship status, which was shared by the account @popfactions on Instagram.
The post read, "Selena Gomez seemingly confirms that’s she is in a relationship." While Selena simply commented, “Facts,” she later spoke out again under another post — this time giving tons more details about her new romance with Benny, 35.
“He is my absolute everything in my heart,” wrote Selena, who hasn’t been in a public relationship for years. Just a few months ago, in fact, she released a song called “Single Soon,” which she described as her way of saying “it's totally OK being on your own, and it's fun.”
However, now that Selena has gone public with her new relationship, several fans of hers were immediately disappointed, given that Benny — who is a close friend of her famous ex Justin Bieber — was once accused of throwing shade at her in an interview.
In 2020, Benny memorably praised Justin during an interview with Zach Sang. But while doing so, he made a reference to “cookie-cutter pop artists.” Many thought this jab was aimed at Selena, whom Benny had collaborated with the year before on their hit single “I Can’t Get Enough.”
“Justin is not one of those cookie-cutter pop artists. You know, they're like, ‘This is my new single, and here’s my makeup line,’ but Justin’s like, ‘Yo, I have a pimple and I have anxiety,’” Benny said. At the time, Selena had recently launched her makeup brand, Rare Beauty.
With this in mind, many of Selena’s fans were disappointed to see the singer not just confirming that she’s in a relationship with Benny but publicly gushing about him.
Selena was quickly met with numerous comments questioning why she was dating Benny. However, she wasted no time hitting back at the criticism and responded to a bunch of concerned fans who labeled her “corny” and “crazy” for her new romance.
At one point, Selena actually addressed the fact that Benny seemingly shaded her back in 2020. Responding to a comment that read, “you’re just corny omg that man was shading you years ago,” Selena wrote, “Lol yeah and he’s still better than anyone I’ve ever been with. Facts.”
Selena doubled down on this in another comment, stating that Benny “has treated [her] better than any human being on this planet.”
She went on to call him “the best thing that’s ever happened to [her]” before telling her fans that she’ll “never allow” their words to “guide” her decisions in life.
“If you actually care about me. This is my happiest. If you don’t feel free to say whatever you want. But I will never allow your words to guide my life. Ever. I’m done. If you can’t accept me at my happiest then don’t be in [my] life at all,” she wrote.
Selena later replied to heavy speculation that she was “trolling” fans by publicly speaking so highly of Benny.
“Never trolling. I’m leaving Insta for a while until I have work again. I just stand up for what I believe in I have no shame in doing that. I love my fans more than anything in the world,” she wrote under another fan account’s post.
What's more, Selena confirmed that she and Benny have been an item for six months — meaning that they were quietly together while she was publicly gushing about being single in August. Interestingly, the pair were photographed together back in July at Selena's 31st birthday party, where she notably posed with her hand around his waist.
And she also hit back at someone who suggested it was "embarrassing" that she was "fighting" her fans over her romance with Benny.
Then Selena went on to share a couple of photos to her Instagram stories, which — if everything else didn’t — showed how serious she is about Benny.
In one selfie, Selena can be seen seemingly cozying up to Benny, although his full face isn’t in the shot.
She later shared a photograph of her hand with a “B” ring on. Benny has yet to publicly comment on the romance, but we'll be sure to let you know if and when he does!
