Here’s How Kourtney’s Causal Pregnancy Reveal On “The Kardashians” Proves She’s Doing Things So Differently Than Her Sisters

The latest episode of The Kardashians features heartwarming new footage of the moment Kourtney revealed her “miracle” pregnancy to her siblings.

This week’s episode of The Kardashians, which was filmed back in June, reveals the exact moment Kourtney shared her pregnancy with the world.

As fans will know, Kourtney welcomed a little boy with her husband, Travis Barker, earlier this month. The baby, who is purportedly named Rocky Thirteen Barker, is Kourtney’s first child with Travis, and she shares three other kids with her ex Scott Disick.

Of course, this is the first time in almost a decade that we’ve seen Kourtney navigating a pregnancy on TV — and in that time, a lot has changed when it comes to her views on sharing her most intimate moments with the world.

For those who don’t know, Kourtney’s very first pregnancy was entirely documented across her and her family’s former reality series, Keeping Up With The Kardashians — including the incredibly intimate moment she confirmed that she was expecting to Scott by showing him a row of six positive pregnancy tests.

Kourtney’s mom, Kris Jenner, made sure to capitalize on the fact that Kourt — who was publicly single at the time — was the first of the KarJenners to fall pregnant on the show. She announced the news to the world just four days before a new KUWTK spinoff was set to air, and told fans that they’d have to “tune in to find out” who the father of the baby was.

This marked the first of many instances of KUWTK arguably exploiting the KarJenners’ most personal and intimate moments for the sake of a good storyline. Kourtney went on to give birth to her first child, Mason, on air, and her following two pregnancies were also used as key plot points for the series later down the line.

And it was the same for the others, too. Kim’s first pregnancy announcement was saved for the 2013 season finale of spinoff show Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, and Khloé later had the KUWTK cameras capture the very moment she told her nearest and dearest that she was expecting.

This pattern of capitalizing on an event as huge as a pregnancy has also continued to unfold over on their current series, The Kardashians.

While the news of Kylie Jenner’s second pregnancy was already very public when the Hulu show first aired in April 2022, its very first episode immediately dove right into the news that she was expecting — as did the rest of the season. Then, Khloé’s shocking revelation that she and her ex Tristan Thompson were expecting a second child via surrogate was used as one of the biggest hooks of Season 2.

But, as mentioned, Kourtney has had a huge change of heart when it comes to filming her most private moments in recent years.

As KUWTK viewers will know, Kourtney massively clashed with her sisters over her growing desire to prioritize her kids over filming for the show on multiple occasions — to the point that she eventually quit altogether.

Of course, KUWTK ultimately came to an end, and the family later moved over to their self-titled Hulu series. Here, Kourtney was more than happy to partake in the show — so long as she had creative control over the way her most private moments were shared with the world.

This has been super evident over the past couple of years. Kourtney outright accused the KUWTK editors of painting her as a negative “character” on the show during an interview last March, and she didn’t hold back when it came to condemning the Hulu editors for clouding the footage of her and Travis’s engagement with Scott’s heartbroken reaction to the entire thing.

Well, it certainly looks like Kourt has obtained the creative control she’s long desired, with the latest episode of The Kardashians featuring her very casual pregnancy reveal.

Around seven minutes into the episode, which is the penultimate of the fourth season, Kourtney is filmed on her bed with her youngest son, Reign.

Before even announcing to the cameras that she’s pregnant, she can clearly be heard telling Reign, “You’re about to be a big brother.” The two then have a casual chat about the new baby, with Reign gushing about how excited he is to teach the little child how to play various video games.

The scene then cuts to Kourtney getting her hair done for an at-home photoshoot. She casually turns to the camera and says, “So guys, I’m having a baby. In case you can’t see my belly baby bump.”

Then, in a confessional, Kourtney elaborates, “I am five months pregnant. I have not told most people, I’ve told my closest friends, my family, my kids. And I had told my mom pretty early on.”

The show then features a throwback scene that was filmed in April, when Kourtney told her sisters about her pregnancy. Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie are seen opening envelopes with the news in, and subsequently rushing over to hug Kourt as they expressed their excitement for her.

“The fact that she got pregnant is just such a beautiful thing. It’s what’s meant to be,” Kim says in a confessional, with Khloé later adding, “I’m so, so, so happy that this happened for her.”

Kris goes on to say, “I’m so happy for Kourtney and Travis. They wanted this so badly and they didn’t have instant success,” referring to their extensive IVF journey. She adds, “So much love, so much prayer went into this and I just couldn’t be happier for this amazing blessing.”

Kourtney later reveals that she fell pregnant roughly a year after she and Travis stopped doing IVF, which she says was “probably two months” before their wedding, in May 2022.

“It happened on Valentine’s Day,” she says of when she conceived. “People would always say to us, ‘The second you stop trying, it’s just gonna happen. And we stopped doing IVF probably two months, maybe, before our wedding. And so, it took a year I think for all those hormones and chemicals to get out of my system.”

“We were not trying whatsoever. I didn’t even check my ovulation anymore. We decided to put it in God’s hands. I thought it was just not happening, and we were accepting of it — and then, God’s plan,” she said, describing the entire thing as a “miracle.”

Needless to say, Kourtney’s super casual pregnancy reveal couldn’t be more different than the way her and her sisters’ pregnancies have been announced on the show in the past. And in the teaser for next week’s episode, it’s revealed that Kris was left annoyed after finding out “through the news” that Kourtney and Travis had decided to make their pregnancy public at his Blink-182 concert — further proving that Kourt is well and truly doing things on her own terms.
