Kourtney Kardashian Didn’t Tell Her Family About Her Planned Pregnancy Announcement Because It Was “Not About” Them And She “Didn’t Think They Would Care”

Kris Jenner was left “really hurt” after finding out that Kourtney and Travis had publicly announced their pregnancy via the news.

As you’re probably aware, Kourtney Kardashian and her husband Travis Barker welcomed a baby boy earlier this month, who they have reportedly called Rocky Thirteen.

Kourtney and Travis had been open about their desire to have a child together for over a year, and their IVF journey was even documented on Kourtney’s family reality show, The Kardashians.

But when the IVF didn’t work out for them, Kourtney decided to stop treatment — but almost exactly one year later, she unexpectedly fell pregnant.

Fans will know that Kourtney’s newborn isn’t her first child, with the star already sharing three kids with her ex Scott Disick.

However, this is the first time that her pregnancy was not capitalized on for her show, with the star’s very first pregnancy back in 2009 being documented in its entirety for Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

E!’s cameras captured everything from the intimate moment that she told Scott that she was expecting, to Kourtney infamously pulling Mason out herself as she gave birth on air.

Her subsequent pregnancies with daughter Penelope and son Reign were also used as key plot points on the show later down the line. But this time around, Kourtney kept the whole thing much more under wraps.

In fact, her pregnancy was mentioned for the first time in last week’s penultimate episode of Season 4 of The Kardashians, and it was brought up incredibly casually.

Before even announcing the news, Kourtney could be heard talking to Reign about becoming a big brother. Later in the episode, she coolly says to the camera: “So guys, I’m having a baby. In case you can’t see my belly baby bump.”

Kourtney went on to explain in a confessional: “I am five months pregnant. I have not told most people, I’ve told my closest friends, my family, my kids. And I had told my mom pretty early on.”

And the way that she told her family was just as low-key, with a throwback scene that was filmed in April airing for the first time last week. In the clip, Kourtney gave her sisters Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner envelopes with a baby scan photo in it as they gathered around a table.

Kourtney then announced her pregnancy to the world in June, and this process was also included in last week’s episode of the reality show. The star decided to pay homage to Travis’s band Blink-182’s “All The Small Things” music video by holding up a large sign that read: “Travis I’m pregnant!”

At the time, the news immediately broke the internet. But in this week’s episode of The Kardashians, it is revealed that Kourtney’s mom, Kris Jenner, was deeply hurt at not being given a heads up that the baby news was going to go public.

In an awkward scene, a producer asked Kris and Khloé if they’d enjoyed the reveal, only for Khloé to reply: “She found out on the news, my mom, she wasn’t happy — rightfully so.”

“I opened my eyes and right in front of me, because we’d left the TV on the night before and woke up very early in the morning, to see Kourtney holding a sign,” Kris explained. “I thought I was being punk’d. I’m like, did somebody put this up?

“Then I realized it was the ABC news,” she went on. “I knew she was pregnant, but I just didn’t know she was going to announce it.”

And Kourtney seemed unfazed by Kris’s hurt feelings, with Khloé then adding: “When I said on Saturday: ‘Wow, mom’s feelings are really hurt that you did this, blah blah blah…’ and she was like: ‘I forgot.’”

“She forgot she had a family,” Kris drily remarked, before sarcastically saying: “That’s what pregnancy brain does. It’s wild how that happens.”

Still, Kourtney stuck by her decision and admitted in a confessional that she genuinely “didn’t think” to invite her family to the concert because the announcement was about her and Travis.

“I truly just didn’t think to invite them to the LA concert, and I didn’t think they would care to come,” she explained. “I did tell Khloé about it and she asked me to change it to San Diego. It’s not about you! It just truly was our way to tell the world, and it was about me and Travis — not about anything else.”

This week, Kris and Khloé joined Kourtney and Travis on the Blink-182 tour bus as the band made their way to a show in San Diego. Within minutes of boarding, Kris was shown complaining about the snacks and temperature on the bus.

And Kris’s behavior only affirmed Kourtney's decision to keep her away from the pregnancy announcement. Reflecting on the situation some more in a confessional, she said: “This is why I don’t invite you guys to stuff, because it’s not about you!”

“Everything becomes about everyone and the way they want to do it and all their complaints, and I’m like: ‘Ah, I see why I didn’t invite you to that other thing,'” Kourtney went on.

This is perhaps an understandable thought process for Kourtney, who has been incredibly open about the way that her sister Kim impacted her wedding celebrations in Italy last year by complaining from “the second” she arrived to “the second” she left.

Later in the episode, Kris was left visibly unimpressed when Kourtney invited her to her and Travis’s baby gender reveal the following day.

“You’re telling me the day before?” she exclaimed in response to Kourtney’s casual invite. “That’s so Kourtney.”

“I just found out,” Kourtney argued, only for Kris to counter: “You just found out you’re going to have a gender reveal?”

Kourtney then clarified that she initially thought the reveal would be just her, Travis, and their kids but it had turned into a bigger event than anticipated.

Thankfully, all of the family were able to make the event despite the short notice — and it was revealed that the couple were expecting a little boy.
