Huntington Beach, California, is usually known for its surf and sun. But when it hailed on Monday, beachgoers were ready to play in the ice.

The pea-sized hail blanketed the sand.

Babies put on their boots.

Snow angels were not entirely successful.

The pier looked even more majestic than usual.

Surfers weren't fazed.

Winter bikinis? Challenge accepted.

Lifeguards remained on duty... in their flip flops.

But it wasn't long before the sun came back out.

Hang tight, little guy.
