A man drove into a crowd of shoppers at a French Christmas market, the second apparently intentional attack of pedestrians in the country in two days.
According to a French security official, ten pedestrians were injured in the incident, which took place on Monday in the town of Nantes, the Associated Press reported. After crashing in the town's main square, the van driver stabbed himself with a knife, which left him seriously injured, officials said.
Four others were also seriously hurt in the crash. Authorities do not believe the man acted out of any religious beliefs, the BBC reported.
On Sunday, another driver hit a group of pedestrians and injured 11 people in Dijon, France. He shouted "Allahu Akbar," "God is great" in Arabic as he drove into the crowd.
A French prosecutor told the AP that the man shouted the phrase to give himself courage, and the attack did not have religious or terrorism motivations. He had a long history of mental illness, the prosecutor said.
Sunday's incident followed another act of violence where a man shouted the Arabic phrase and attacked three police officers with a knife in Tours. He was fatally shot after injuring the officers.
