Two women and their dog, who were rescued after they got lost hiking in Maine, were later found dead inside their submerged car in the ocean, reports the Associated Press.
Amy Stiner, 37, who was pregnant, and her friend, Melissa Moyer, 38, called for help after they got lost in Roque Bluffs State Park. A resident gave them a ride to his house after which a warden dropped them to their car.
But Stiner, who went in the wrong direction, accidentally drove the car down a boat ramp at the dead-end of a road at 9 p.m. The Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith said Stiner was five months pregnant.
"They called on the phone that they were in the water and the car was filling up. Then the phone went dead," Smith said. "An hour later, the deputies found the car."
The women and the dog were found dead inside the submerged car with the doors closed and the windows up. Smith said foggy weather could have led to the accident.
