Disturbing Photos Of Journalists In A Cage During Their Trial In Egypt

A total of 20 journalists have been accused of joining or aiding a terrorist organization and spreading false news in the country.

Three Al Jazeera journalists were among the six defendants on trial for allegedly supporting or belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, which was designated as a terrorist organization, at Cairo's Tora Prison on Wednesday, March 5.

"Journalists are not terrorists," shouted Mohamed Fadel Fahmy, Al-Jazeera's Egypt bureau chief, before the hearing began.

The high-profile case has sparked a global outcry over the restrictions on the freedom of press by Egypt's military-backed interim government.

The defendants, including the three Al Jazeera journalists who have been held in captivity for more than two months, denied all charges at the start of the trial.
