A female suspect in the killing of U.S. teacher Ibolya Ryan in the bathroom of an Abu Dhabi mall has been arrested, an official in the Emirate has said.

Footage released by the Abu Dhabi police showed armed officers entering the suspect's house and arresting her.

Deputy Minister For the Interior Saif Bin Zayed also told a press conference that the suspect had tried to plant a primitive bomb outside an American doctor's house.

The police video showed suspicious equipment found inside the suspect's car. The car's number plate was hidden by a national flag and its steering wheel was tainted with what appears to be blood.

The bomb was dismantled by police after it was discovered by one of the doctor's sons.

The 37-year-old mother of twins from the U.S. — whose name has not been released — was stabbed to death in the public restroom of the mall on Reem Island, Monday, NBC News reported.

The woman was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her wounds, Abu Dhabi police said. The suspect is on the run, and police are investigating the suspect's motive and identity.

Police are also caring for the victim's twins, the head of Abu Dhabi's Criminal Investigation Department said.

The suspect, robed in a black abaya, shayla (head scarf), niqab (face cover) and black gloves, has been dubbed the "Reem Island Ghost" and police have yet to identify the gender.

The surveillance video shows the suspect chatting briefly with a mall security guard and picking up a newspaper before turning a corner in the crowded mall.

The suspect then allegedly stabbed the victim with a "sharp tool" after a fight in the public restroom, police said.

Around 90 minutes later, the footage shows the suspect running towards the elevator as shoppers appear to panic at the discovery of the stabbed woman.

A woman then appears to be confronting the suspect, but the robed figure manages to get into the elevator alone.

The suspect is then seen walking out of the mall before security guards and other bystanders can catch up.

In October, U.S. embassies issued warnings to U.S. citizens about a jihadist website encouraging attacks against teachers in American and international schools in the Middle East.

While the alert stated that the Mission was unaware of "specific, credible threats," against teachers, it warned U.S. citizens to remain vigilant about their personal security.
