At Least Five Wounded In Jerusalem Car Attack

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says a Palestinian man from East Jerusalem was behind the attack.

At least five people were wounded Friday morning in Jerusalem, after a driver plowed his car into a busy light rail station.

All five were female police officers waiting for the train at the time of the attack. Witnesses told Israel's Ynet News that the car first plowed into the light rail station, and then stopped a small distance away. They said a man then emerged from the car and started attacking people with an iron rod, before he was shot by a nearby border police guard.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said police were still investigating the scene.

Friday's attack came two week's ahead of Israel's national elections, and one day after the Palestinian leadership voted to begin the process to end security cooperation between Palestinian security forces and Israel.

Israeli journalists tweeted these photos from the scene, showing the car used in the attack.
