Six Reported Dead In Spain After Race Car Crashes Into Spectators

The driver appeared to lose control during the race Saturday as he headed into a curve, crashing into a crowd of spectators.

Six people were killed in northwest Spain Saturday when a race car crashed into a crowd of people, including a young girl and two pregnant women.

Sixteen others were injured in the crash, which occurred near the city of A Coruña, after the driver appeared to lose control of the car and tumble off the road where a group of spectators were standing, according to videos and images posted to social media.

The dead spectators were identified as four females and two men, El Païs reported. Two of the women were pregnant.

The crash occurred in a stretch of the a race running through Carral during the Rally de La Coruña.

The car appeared to be going into a curve when it lost control, smashing into the crowd.

The race was cancelled shortly after the crash as authorities responded by tending to the victims, according to El Païs.
