Ron Paul Has Never Worn A Flag Pin In A Debate

It would be kind of more surprising if he had.

Ron Paul is the only major Republican candidate to have never worn a flag pin in a presidential debate during this cycle, according to a University of Minnesota report.

The flag pin -- a protective amulet against questions of patriotism for politicians in either party -- has graced the lapels of all of Paul's opponents except for fellow libertarian Gary Johnson, who didn't wear one in the two debates he appeared in.

The winner of the debates when measured by the flag pin metric was actually Herman Cain:

The wearing or non-wearing of a flag pin is an issue that famously dogged Barack Obama, but Ron Paul's eschewing hasn't attracted the same notice, likely since it's in keeping with the campaign's unorthodox style.
