Both Campaigns See June Contribution Spikes

Individual contributions to Romney for President peaked on the first of the month, then soared again following SCOTUS's health care decision. Those to Obama for America started the month slower but rose precipitously during the last days of June.

The Romney campaign's down-to-the-wire fundraising on May 31 inspired a surge of contributions from individual small donors, making June 1st the best fundraising day of the month. After this aggressive start — Romney raised nearly $1.7 million on that one day — contributions rose and fell throughout the rest of June. They then spiked again to just over $1.5 million after the June 28 decision on the Affordable Care Act.

Obama's campaign struggled in the early days of June, failing to break the $500,000 mark most days. However, beginning on June 26, two days before the health care decision, donations rose to over $1.5 million. Obama for America closed out the month by raising just below $2.4 million on June 30.
