A jailed member of the punk band Pussy Riot has been transferred to a prison hospital one week after launching a hunger strike to protest horrific conditions.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 23, was transferred to prison hospital LPU-21 in the republic of Mordovia, where she is serving a two-year sentence for performing an anti-Kremlin punk anthem inside a Moscow church. Her husband, Petya Verzilov, quoted a prison doctor as telling him on Friday that Tolokonnikova's condition was "horrible."
"We had no contact with her for 70 hours, but according to prison hospital officials they will admit lawyers tomorrow morning," Verzilov told BuzzFeed.
Tolokonnikova announced her hunger strike last week in a letter outlining conditions of slave labor, abuse and punishment inside the women's prison.
