Christian Jose Gomez, 23, was arrested and charged with murder Thursday after his mother, Maria Suarez-Cassagne, was found dead and decapitated outside his house in Oldsmar, Florida, WFLA reported.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, at around 7:20 p.m. on New Year's Eve, they received a call from Gomez's brother, Mario, saying that Gomez had killed his mother and chopped her head off.
Police arrived at the scene and found 48-year-old Suarez-Cassagne in the front yard of the house. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Gomez's brother was not injured.
Police found an axe outside the house, which they are considering the murder weapon at this time.
Gomez was spotted riding a bike a few blocks from the house and taken into custody. Police say he admitted to the killing. He is charged with first-degree murder.
Pinellas County Sheriff Lieutenant Elizabeth Brady told Sky News that Gomez had planned to kill his mother for two days, after she kept asking him to put some boxes in the attic.
