Fire Erupts On Gulf Of Mexico Rig After Natural Gas Blowout
A natural gas rig ruptured on Tuesday and partially collapsed into the Gulf after a fire broke out. All 44 workers were safely evacuated from the platform.
The blowout occurred Tuesday morning while preparing the shallow-water drilling rig for production, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
The rig, known as Hercules 265, off the coast of Louisiana partially collapsed after catching fire.
The 44 personnel aboard the drilling rig, owned by Hercules Offshore Inc., which was a contractor for Houston's Walter Oil & Gas Corp. were evacuated.
Federal authorities say no sheens were sighted in the Gulf of Mexico during a flyover on Wednesday morning.
