Goldman Sachs's Lead Green Tech Banker Gets A Promotion

Stuart Bernstein to head up the bank's Venture Capital Coverage Group.

Goldman Sachs veteran Stuart Bernstein, currently head of the bank's clean technology and renewable energy group, is getting another title: head of the firm's Venture Capital Coverage Group, according to a memo obtained by BuzzFeed.

Bernstein has been the public face and lead for the bank's green technology efforts, including a $500 million financing deal with Solar City, Elon Musk's solar energy company. Bernstein was the founding head of the group more than three years ago.

A Goldman Sachs spokesperson confirmed the contents of the memo.

Under his leadership, Goldman was the top bank for green energy stock offerings in 2012, according to Bloomberg. Goldman committed to investing $40 billion over ten years in clean energy. In March, Goldman's previous venture capital coverage chief, Frank L. Walters, joined Bank of America.

Bernstein has been at Goldman since 1986 and was previously the head of the bank's Financial Institution's Equity Capital Markets Group.
