Seller Samsonbible (100% feedback!) is selling an unopened original iPhone on eBay. His starting price? $10,000.
As a phone, this thing will be nearly useless. Software updates for the original iPhone stopped at 3.x, and many, many apps in the App Store aren't compatible with anything older than iOS 4. Apple's just about to release iOS 6, for reference. In addition, AT&T's EDGE network, the not-quite-3G network the original iPhone used for data, is actually much smaller than it was in 2007. AT&T has moved on.
This is, in consumer tech terms, already an antique — the "vintage" label might even be reasonable. Seeing the original product info in a sales context drives that home:
$10,000 is a painfully — and I'm guessing consciously — overambitious ask for a multi-million-run gadget that's only five years old. But as a piece of history, a pristine, original iPhone will one day be worth much more than its retail price. (That said, while the original Walkman, now 33 years old, is worth a lot more than it used to be, it's nowhere near $10,000.)
Anyway, curious to see if anyone bites, even if this is just a stunt.
