Two buildings were destroyed Monday morning after the ground opened up beneath Summer Bay Resort in Clermont, Florida. One building collapsed and another "slowly sank," according to reports.
The hotel was evacuated starting at 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. No injuries were reported among the 35 guests.
Witness Maggie Ghamry described the panic before the evacuation to WFTV:
"One person had to break out of a window because the door frame collapsed. He, his wife and an infant, he had to break the window so they could escape. There were windows breaking everywhere. One woman was sitting in the tub and the tub levitated and that's when she just grabbed a pair of shorts and came out with nothing. So, it was the most sure real [sic] experience I never could have imagined in my wildest dreams."
In late February, another central Florida sinkhole — initially only 20 feet wide — swallowed up the bedroom of 36-year-old Jeff Bush. His body was never recovered.
