Amanda Bynes' Parents Think She Should Stay In The Hospital

A hospital source tells the New York Daily News that Bynes is "still delusional."

Amanda Bynes' parents reportedly want to extend her hospitalization for another month, as the New York Daily News reports that a source within the hospital says Bynes' mental health is "not improving yet."

Bynes was hospitalized on a 5150 order on July 22 after she apparently started a small fire on an elderly woman's driveway in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, Calif. (The incident was preceded by a long stretch of strange behavior.) A 5150 order only allows a patient to be kept for mental evaluation for 72 hours, but Bynes' forced hospitalization was extended for two weeks. It's set to expire on Thursday night.

Since the fire incident, there's been much discussion over Bynes' conservatorship, with her parents filing for the legal designation on July 26. A hearing in the case is set for this Friday.

In the meantime, Rick and Lynn Bynes have showed interest in doctors extending their daughter's stay for 30 more days, the Daily News reports. If that happens, the state may pursue its own mental health conservatorship of Bynes, in which case the Bynes family will suspend its filing.

An anonymous source also provided the Daily News with an update on Bynes' condition:

"She's not improving yet. She's still delusional. These meds take longer than a week to work, and she's only been given them for about a week ... She's not physically combative, but the doctors weren't forcing her to take her meds in the beginning. Then the doctors said she had to take them or they would force her, so she started."
