At the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards this weekend, Scandal star Kerry Washington was honored with the Vanguard Award...

And, after Ellen DeGeneres presented her with the award, Washington gave a speech about otherness, intersectionality, and inclusive storytelling.

First, she talked about how instead of sticking together...

Most disenfranchised people are at odds with other "others."

And that's where fear, judgment, and hate come from.

She also talked about the power and potential power of storytelling...

Stressing the need for more LGBT stories in the media with different kinds of LGBT characters told by LGBT people.

She talked about the state of LGBT rights when DeGeneres came out in 1997 and threw some serious shade at black people today who tell her they "don't believe in gay marriage"...
