White House Official Fired Over Anonymous Twitter Account

Jofi Joseph has been unmasked as the voice behind @NatSecWonk.

Senior White House official Jofi Jospeh has been fired for leaking internal information using the anonnymous Twitter account, @NatSecWonk.

Joseph was director of nuclear non-proliferation on the White House National Security Council staff and had been helping negotiate nuclear issues with Iran. The Twitter account was known for being snarky and abrasive, and in its profile describes itself as "unapologetically" saying what everyone else only thinks. The account attacked both parties, and was critical of the Obama administration, as well as political reporters.

It's reported officials have been investigating who was behind the account for months, and when they finally did discover that it was Joseph, @NatSecWonk was abruptly shut down, without any explanation.

"It has been a privilege to serve in this Administration and I deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me. What started out as an intended parody account of DC culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments. I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted."

The White House confirmed to Reuters that Jofi Joseph no longer works there, but would not comment on personnel matters.
