An anonymous official has made the announcement a day ahead of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons official statement on Nov. 1.

An official from the global chemical weapons watchdog has announced Syria has officially destroyed its equipment for producing chemical weapons.

According to the Associated Press, the official has remained anonymous as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is meant to make its official public statement on Nov. 1 — the deadline for Damascus to destroy or "render inoperable" all of its chemical weapon production facilities and filling munitions.

Syria still has to destroy all of its existing weapons, and its believed they have 1,000 metric tons of chemicals and weapons. It's reported they have both nerve agent sarin and mustard gas in their stockpile.

The United Nations-OPCW team in Syria aims to destroy all of Damascus' chemical weapons by mid-2014.
