Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Says "Rehab Is Amazing"

After speculation about his whereabouts, the mayor spoke to the Toronto Sun to confirm he is in treatment for addiction.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford might be in rehab, but he says his supporters shouldn't worry: He still plans on returning in time for the election this fall, the Toronto Sun reported.

"Of course, I am coming back and I am going to kick butt," Ford said. "I will be on the ballot for mayor in October, guaranteed, and I will do well ... On Oct. 28, there will be no need to change the locks. There will be no need to clean out my office because I am coming back."

Last week, Ford announced he would take a "leave of absence" after a new video emerged of the mayor smoking crack. He confirmed to the Toronto Sun that he was in a rehabilitation center, and he was "doing fine."

"I feel great," he said. "Rehab is amazing. It reminds me of football camp. Kind of like the Washington Redskins camp I went to as a kid."

Ford went on to describe some details from his stay at a treatment center for addictions to alcohol and drugs. From the Sun:

He said there are meetings with "eight people in a group," then sometimes four, "then there is a meal before we have some one-on-one sessions."

Ford added: "I am working out every day and I am learning about myself, my past and things like that."

One of the areas covered so far is his own anger at his political opponents — something he acknowledged he needs to work on.

"It's not an excuse to play the victim and it's not an excuse to drink," he said.

"I think alcohol is the worst drug of all. It makes you do things that you would never do or say things that you wouldn't," he said.

"I do feel bad about what happened, but it might have been the best thing that happened because I am working on getting better."

Ford says he is determined to do whatever necessary to get better, and said that his family knows where he is and he is in contact with his children. Going into rehab is the "best decision" he has ever made, said Ford.
