This Is How You Use The Hot New Social App Beme And What It Does

Beme me up, Casey

Filmmaker and noted social media phenomenon Casey Neistat's new app, Beme, is off to a hot start. The thing in such high demand, tweeting the words "Beme unlock code" will likely introduce you to crowds of wannabe users, all asking to join the party.

If you can't wait to see what Beme looks like, or are already using it and trying to figure out what to do, you've come to the right place. We here at BuzzFeed News got our hands on Beme and, after a few hours of playing with it, are ready to give you a look inside. Here's how it works:

Opening the app brings you to this home screen.

The home screen is just a list of Beme usernames. Each time a username appears, it means that person has posted a video to Beme. To view that person's video, you hold down on the username until it starts playing.

There are no likes or shares on Beme, but the video will allow you to react with a selfie via a little green box that appears in the right corner. Here's our attempt:

To film a video in Beme, you cover your phone's sensor for four seconds. Don't remove your finger! The video automatically finishes recording after it hits the time limit.

Didn't get that? Here's a video to show it with the sounds that you'll hear:

Ellen Cushing

Another way to film? Just place the sensor over something that will cover it. Even your own body.

The idea behind the app is to create a social media experience that is more authentic than the standard platforms, according to Neistat. Here's his introduction to Beme, via YouTube:
