A stalker who was obsessed with Lily Allen and broke into her bedroom has been detained and hospitalised under the Mental Health Act after a court hearing.
Alex Gray, 31, from Perth, was detained for an indeterminate period and given a restraining order at Harrow crown court on Friday, Press Association reported.
Gray broke into Allen's family home in Queen's Park, west London, in 2015 and stole various items including a handbag, a set of keys, some jewellery, and a hard drive.
He was found guilty of one count of burglary and one of stalking at a trial in April.
The court heard on Friday that Gray had a "crazy obsession" with Allen and claimed that she had stolen lyrics and royalty payments from him.
Judge Martyn Barklem said that Gray told police he wanted to attack her with a knife, PA reported.
He said: "This was a terrifying experience for [Lily Allen], and it was extremely fortunate there was an adult male in the property who evicted Mr Gray from it."
The court also heard that Gray had been cautioned in 2008 for turning up to Allen's house and handing her a CD that contained love songs, and was reported for harassing her again in 2010.
Allen said in a victim impact statement: "The impact of Mr Gray's actions upon me has been massive.
"I had already been incredibly disturbed and upset by the letters Mr Gray sent, and his contact on social media, but the break-in at my home was absolutely terrifying.
"I don't think this was a spur-of-the-moment decision, but rather something he thought about for some time."
A psychiatrist told the court Gray was likely to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia.
Gray apologised to Allen through his solicitor.
