Volvo's crash avoidance system is designed to automatically brake the car when confronted by a pedestrian in the road. Nice in theory, but Volvo drivers shouldn't get too used to relying on it just yet, since it failed to spot dummy pedestrians in 3 out of 12 tests in Italy recently.

Plant Fed Up With Facebook Drowns

Meet Eater is a plant in an experiment by Queensland state library, which gets watered by Facebook interactions - people becoming fans or writing on its wall. The plant is now in its third incarnation, since the first two have been drowned by a worldwide outpouring of love and affection (and water).

Czech Actual Taxi Fare

Czech IT company Et Netera has developed a free application which allows taxi passengers to calculate the actual fare to their destination themselves in order to help eradicate Prague's notoriously bad problem with swindling taxi drivers. Hopefully, it comes with translations.
