Helping Baby Turtles
Depending on the species of turtle and climate, turtle eggs take about 2-4 months to hatch. Even though it's now October, there are still baby turtles struggling to get to water. Here's what they go through and of course, what you can do to help them out.
Why I Couldn't Be In Class
No thanks to Hurricane Nicole, the weather in New England was pretty nasty last week. But SOME creatures don't mind getting wet, and so Tumblr user CalamitySam found herself trapped by a giant snapping turtle that refused to cross the road. She sent this picture to her professor as evidence of why she couldn't make it to class on time. If I were the prof, I'd totally understand.
Tortoise Has a Bad Day
It's bad enough when your girlfriend is a soccer ball. But you know it's time to go back to bed when you're caught in the act by a buddy who's perfectly happy to give you crap for it.
For the Love of Pug
Speedy and Foo have a difficult relationship. Speedy is a tortoise who can't settle down. Foo the Pug is a homebody whose heart is broken every time Speedy leaves. Poor Foo. I'd cry too.
IMPOSTERS WILL BE NOMMED!
Tortoises will not hesitate to nom their own kind...if it's made out of fruit.
Raising Hope "Breakfast Turtle"
The second episode of Raising Hope, Fox's new series about a crazy family struggling to care for a baby after her mother was executed for murder (no fooling!), featured a "breakfast turtle" that looked very familiar. I don't care if turtle burgers are famous now! I still think they're pretty gross.
Bearded Dragon Rides Sulcata Tortoise
Based on the soundtrack, I can only assume that these two are off on a journey of deep spiritual reflection. Or maybe they're being just a little bit emo.
When Snappers "Do It"
Snapping turtle sex is significantly less squeaky than tortoise sex. But Snappers really have to work hard at synchronizing their swimming.

Ninja Star Turtle
One Spiny Hill Turtle, Heosemys Spinosa, hatched at the Tennessee Aquarium Monday, September 20th from a clutch of three eggs. You could totally use it to kill your enemies!
Aesop's Robotic Fables
Slow, steady and exceptional body armor wins the race.
Building a Turtle
Some people are good at being crafty (not me). Over 100 hours of labor went into creating this wire turtle. I think it came out pretty well, don't you?
Clever Pancake Tortoise
Tortoises typically have domed shells, but Pancake Tortoises are flat like their namesakes. If a tortoise is flipped on its back, it can use the curvature of its shell to rock back and forth and right itself. Pancake Tortoises (such as the wall-climbing fellow in this video) need to think things through a bit more.
Sad Turtles
Even turtles and tortoises get a little depressed. Sometimes they just need a hug.
Turtle Turtle Baby
Chocolate turtle shells dance to Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby. The sad thing? They have better moves than the guys in the original video. Unsurprisingly, they're especially good at doing the turtle.
Turtle vs. Robot
It's a battle to the death! Except one of them isn't actually alive, and the other one is too busy being cute and turtley to do any serious damage. Still, my money's on the turtle. It's the principle of the thing.
Sinbad in the Chair Leg Forest
An expert in Chelonian communication translated Sinbad the Tortoise's behavior to English. Essentially, it boils down to: "F*cking chairs, how do they work?"
Happy Birthday, Turtle!
The turtle that co-runs turtlefeed with me turns one year old on September 22! I tried to surprise him, but he ended up surprising me.
The Joy of Turtles
Turtles: making little kids happy since, like, forever.
You Bore This Tortoise
This tortoise is too cool for you. Do not attempt to talk to the tortoise because he will not be interested in anything you have to say.
