40th Anniversary of Led Zeppelin IV
Forty years ago, in 1971, something incredible happened. The best rock band in the world became the most commercially successful band in the world. In November, Led Zeppelin releaed their fourth album. The band didn't even put their name on the album cover. They refused to do any of the usual "teeny bopper" marketing that was typical of the time. Regardless, the album's first single "Black Dog" made it all the way to 15 on the Billboard Top 40. At the end of side one, the band placed an 8 minute song. Music industry insiders scoffed, saying, "That song will never see the light of day... radio stations won't play it." That song went on to be the most played song of the modern era. Led Zeppelin's success seems an impossibility today. But we can bask in the glory that it happened once. Here's some audio of a rare demo of the 8 minute song "that wouldn't get radio play."
The "Assless Chaps" Debate
Last night, A reddit user kicked off what has turned out to be the defining issue of our age. He suggested that "assless" is redundancy, that all chaps are assless by default, and that no distinction regarding the assiness of chaps is needed. Common usage and public opinion are stacked against this reddit user as a quick google search reveals 556,000 results. But the public could be wrong. Are there any chaps experts who can really guide us through this?

LOWRIDER: Don't Take It for Granted!
I've basically been half listening to "low rider" my whole life... not taking it seriously because of the kitsch factor. But this came to me like a revelation on the radio this week: Lowrider is serious f*cking music! And it is genius! Nothing like it.

I don't understand how we are in a horrible economic situation and two wars, yet "indie rock" keeps keeps cuter and quieter.
Many People Online Are Insane (including Me?)
I just posted "David Lee Roth in Assless Chaps" to reddit. On Reddit, some guy voted it down, and corrected me on the definition of "assless chaps" saying, "All chaps are assless. If they had an ass they'd be pants." Really? Really? [Rachel Maddow expression]
