Romney's Religion Mattered
According to exit polls, Romney overwhelmingly lost the 60 percent of South Carolina voters who said the religious beliefs of candidates matter somewhat or a great deal, garnering only 19 percent of their support. Among the 40 percent of voters who said religious beliefs don't matter as much or don't matter at all, Romney won a healthy plurality (39 percent).
