The Bus Stop Ad That Displays Your Weight

People using public transport in the Dutch city of Rotterdam have more to worry about than overcrowded buses. An advertising campaign by health club chain Fitness First has seen the bench seat in one of the city's bus stops converted into a scale, ready to record the weight of anyone who sits on it. When the seat is vacant, an electronic display on the right-hand side of the bus stop displays a number which hovers around 0kg. As soon as waiting members of the public sit down however, their weight is displayed for all to see.

Hooked up to a drip, wearing just a nappy and a forlorn expression, the tiny infant stares out through the bars of his cot at the frenzy of activity around him. A few feet away, a nurse makes up a bottle of formula while another prepares a bath. On a nearby table lies a thermometer, a blood-pressure gauge and bottles of medication. The scene is typical of any infant care unit and the staff are dedicated to saving their tiny patients. The only difference is that these 'babies' are not human but infant orang-utans.
