Plane Skids Off Snowy Runway At New York's LaGuardia Airport

Delta Flight 1086 arrived from Atlanta. The FDNY says 24 people received non-life-threatening injuries.

A Delta plane skidded off a snowy runway and crashed through a fence at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

The FDNY says 24 people received non-life-threatening injuries, with three passengers transported to the hospital. There was a minor fuel spill that has since been contained. Delta flight 1086 departed Atlanta and landed at LaGuardia at approximately 11:10 a.m.

"Customers deplaned via aircraft slides and have moved to the terminal on buses. Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe," Delta said in a statement. "Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident."

The FAA has closed the airport's runways until 7:00 p.m. ET, according to multiple reports.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a news conference that the agency's response to the scene was "exemplary" and officers were on the scene in minutes.

He said the FAA made the call prior to the accident to keep the runway open despite bad weather, and pilots who landed shortly before the incident reported good braking activity on the runway.
