Martin Shkreli Really Pissed Off This Congressman By Refusing To Testify About Increasing Drug Prices

U.S Rep. Trey Gowdy was "stunned" that Shkreli would not even talk about the Wu-Tang Clan album at a congressional hearing on the prescription drug market. WARNING: This post contains several smug images of Shkreli.

Martin Shkreli, "the bad boy of pharma," refused to testify at a congressional hearing on increasing drug prices on Wednesday, which did not go down well with U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy.

Shkreli invoked his 5th Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and declined to answer any of the questions directed at him about raising the price of life-saving drug Daraprim from $13.50 to $750.

"What do you say to a single, pregnant woman who might have AIDS, no income, and she needs Daraprim to survive... what do you say to her?" was the first question directed to Shkreli by Congressman Jason Chaffetz.

"Do you think you've done anything wrong?" —Chaffetz

Congressman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina then asked Shkreli, "Is it pronounced Shkreli?"

"See there you CAN answer some questions. That one didn't incriminate you." —Gowdy

Gowdy:

Shkreli: "I intend to use the advice of my counsel, not yours."

Shkreli:

Gowdy said that Shkreli "couldn't wait to educate members of Congress" on drug pricing in an interview with a television station and that he could waive his 5th Amendment privilege to do that right now.

Gowdy: "I listened to his interview and he didn't have to be prodded to talk during that, or doesn't have to be prodded to tweet a whole lot or show us his life on that little web cam he's got..."

Shkreli:

Gowdy: "We can even talk about the purchase of... is the Wu-Tang Clan... is that the name of the album, the name of the group?"

Shkreli: "On the advice of counsel I invoke my 5th Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and respectfully decline to answer your question."

Shkreli's attorney: "Mr. Chairman, may I be recognized for a moment?"

Mr. Chairman: "No."

:(

Mr. Chairman: "You are not recognized and you will be seated."

Mr. Chairman:

But Shkreli could only stay silent for so long...at least on Twitter that is.

Hard to accept that these imbeciles represent the people in our government.

And then this happened.
