Countries With The Most And Least Number Of Female Legislators

The Inter-Parliamentary Union, an international organization of Parliaments,
ranked 189 countries based on the percentage of women in the lower or single house of Parliament. Here are how some countries fared.

Compared to all other nations, Rwanda has the highest percentage of women in its lower house of Parliament — nearly 64%. Of the 80 seats in the house, women occupy 51.
Exactly half of the members of the General Council of Andorra are women. There are 14 women occupying a total of 28 seats.

Cuba's National Assembly has 48.9% of women. Of a total of 612 seats, women occupy 299.
The Riksdag — Sweden's Parliament House — has 45.0% of women. They occupy 157 of 349 seats.
5. South Africa
South Africa has 44.8% of women in the National Assembly. Of a total of 400 seats, women currently occupy 179.
Seychelles has 43.8% of women in its National Assembly. There are 14 women occupying a total of 32 seats.
Of the 150 seats in Senegal's National Assembly, women occupy 65 seats; that's 43.3% of the lower house.
Women form 42.5% of Finland's parliament — the Eduskunta. There are 85 women occupying a total of 200 seats.
Ecuador's National Assembly has 41.6% of women. They occupy 57 of 137 seats.

Belgium has 41.3% of women in its Chamber of Representatives. That's 62 women occupying a total of 150 seats.

China has 23.4% of women in the National People's Congress (NPC) which is the largest parliamentary body in the world. Of its 2,987 members, 699 are women.

that the list does not recognize countries that are tied with the same rank, so there are actually 98 countries with a higher percentage of female legislators than the U.S. NPR notes

Russia has 13.6% of women in the State Duma. There are 61 women occupying a total of 450 seats.
