Sofer's parents, who flew to Israel to find their son, offered a reward of around $28,000 to anyone who could locate Aaron.

"I want to thank everyone for all the help, but I ask you, please, please, please – I beg of you, beg you – please, if anyone sees any whereabouts of Aaron, please call the police immediately,” said Sofer’s mother, Chulda, in an emotional plea. The Sofers also thanked the FBI and the U.S. Consulate for their efforts in the search.

In July, a Palestinian teen's body was found in the Jerusalem Forest not far from where Sofer went missing. Authorities said it was a "revenge killing" for the death of three Israeli teens in June.
