In one of Europe's biggest jewelry heists in recent years, an armed robber stole millions worth of diamonds from the Carlton Intercontinental Hotel in the French Riviera city of Cannes on Sunday.
The jewels were stolen in broad daylight from an exhibit by the prestigious Leviev diamond house, owned by Israeli billionaire Lev Leviev. The estimated value of the jewels stolen was initially $53 million, but has now been raised to $136 million.

The robber's face was covered by a hat and a scarf as he threatened to shoot the exhibitors and guests, reported CNN. No one was injured.
This is the third major heist in Cannes since May. More than $1 million worth of jewels were stolen from a hotel safe, after which a necklace worth $2.6 million was stolen from a hotel party during the Cannes Film Festival.
