18-Year-Old Charged With Fatally Stabbing Three Children In North Carolina

Three brothers – 1, 5, and 12 years old – were stabbed to death in their home in eastern North Carolina on Tuesday night, police said.

The suspect, 18-year-old Eh Lar Doh Htoo, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with an intent to kill, New Bern police said in a press release. He was additionally charged with three open counts of murder.

The victims' 14-year-old sister and their mother were also injured in the attack. They were treated and released from the hospital, Public Information Officer Lt. Ronda Allen told BuzzFeed News.

On March 17 at 10:53 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man with a knife in the 800 block of Pasteur Street in the city of New Bern. After securing the suspect, police entered the house and found two children stabbed to death. The third child was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries .

Allen said the victims and suspect were Burmese and knew each other, but were not related. The suspect was the family's neighbor, she added. The motive for the crime is still being investigated.

Htoo is being held at the Craven County Confinement Center under a $1 million bond and is set to appear in court on Thursday.
