11 Heartwarming Photos Of A Mass Indian Wedding Where 92 Disabled Couples Got Hitched

Around 92 low-income and disabled couples tied the knot in New Delhi on June 15 in a free mass wedding ceremony organized by the non-profit organization Narayan Sewa Sansthan.

The NGO offers a registration service where people who suffer from disabilities can apply and meet with prospective spouses. They also provide the couples with their wedding finery and gift them dinner sets, sewing machines, jewelry, clothes etc.

Many of the couples were afflicted by polio and went through their wedding rituals with the help of crutches and the support of volunteers.

Mass weddings in India are usually organized by non-profits to help low-income families who cannot afford expensive weddings and the dowry that is customary in many communities.

The NGO's president told the Times of India that it was it difficult for those with disabilities to find partners. He said that the founders organized such mass weddings so that disabled people could get married and support each other.

Most of the couples were married as per traditional Hindu customs. A Muslim and Christian couple were married in separate ceremonies.

"There is only one religion, and that religion is love," said Kailash Manav, founder of Narayan Seva Sansthan.
