Kylie Jenner Sparked Backlash After She Posted An “Insensitive” And “Disrespectful” Backstage Video Of Travis Scott “Raging” Just 9 Months After The Astroworld Tragedy

“No respect for the victims of Astroworld at all, this isn’t cute it’s actually sickening.”

On Nov. 5, 2021, 10 people — including a 9-year-old child — died at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston.

Hundreds more were injured during the deadly crowd surge at the annual event, which is produced by Travis and named after his 2018 album.

The rapper was accused of “inciting the crowd” during his headline performance, which is when the tragedy occurred. It was also reported that he continued performing for 37 minutes after the festival had been declared a mass casualty incident.

Travis first discussed the tragedy in December, when he appeared to suggest that the media was unfairly pinning the blame on him for the deaths.

In a sit-down interview with Charlamagne tha God, Travis said: “I’m the face of the festival, I’m an artist. So yeah, the media… They wanna put it on me.”

Sources close to the rapper have maintained that Travis was not aware of the severity of the crowd surge, and the rapper has also denied legal responsibility for the deaths and injuries.

However, Astroworld was not the first time that Travis had faced scrutiny for his live shows and the way that he encourages his fans to “rage” with him. This leads to the formation of mosh pits, people crowd surfing, and stage diving.

In fact, Travis is so renowned for his “raging” that his fans are known as “ragers,” and he previously said that he wants his shows to feel like a wrestling match.

In a 2015 GQ video titled “How to Rage With Travis Scott,” the rapper explained: “Since I was 6, I wanted to be a fucking wrestler. So in performances, I always wanted to make it feel like it was the WWF (now known as WWE) or some shit.”

That same year, Travis pleaded guilty to charges of reckless conduct after he encouraged Lollapalooza attendees to climb over security barricades and onto the stage.

In 2017, Travis was arrested on charges of inciting a riot, disorderly conduct, and endangering the welfare of a minor after a show in Arkansas. Authorities claimed that he encouraged fans to rush the stage, and he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.

Also in 2017, Travis was sued by a fan who said that he was pushed from a third-story balcony after Travis encouraged him to jump during a New York City concert. The fan was left paralyzed by the fall, and Travis referenced the incident in his 2018 song “Stargazing.”

“And it ain’t a mosh pit if ain’t no injuries / I got ’em stage divin’ out the nosebleeds,” the lyrics read.

On Saturday, Travis took to the stage at London’s O2 Arena for his first international show since the Astroworld tragedy.

He’d previously performed at E11even in Miami during the Formula 1 Grand Prix in May, as well as at a Coachella party and a pre-Oscars bash.

However, this was his first major solo show since the festival, and his partner, Kylie Jenner, and their 4-year-old daughter, Stormi, were there to support him.

In true Kylie fashion, the billionaire shared many photos and clips from the show on her social media channels, including a sweet video of Stormi watching her dad perform onstage.

However, another post sparked fierce backlash as Kylie filmed Travis seemingly “raging” backstage after the show.

In the clip, someone who is assumed to be Kylie can be heard laughing as a topless Travis, 31, repeatedly screams while hitting and kicking some doors.

Travis is flailing down the hallway while being sprayed with champagne by his entourage, who are egging him on by cheering, “Biggest in the world!”

Travis pauses to scream some more as he makes his way down the corridor and is doused with champagne.

Kylie shared the video in the middle of a carousel post on her Instagram page, as well as a stand-alone post on TikTok.

While it remains live on Instagram, the TikTok has been deleted. Before it was removed, though, it received an overwhelmingly negative reaction.

Discussing the video on Reddit forums, people shared their shock at this “aggressive” representation of Travis at his concert — especially so soon after 10 people died at his show.

“This is soooo insensitive to the lives lost at his festival. It shows that he thinks super highly of himself and looks pretty aggressive and self consumed,” one person wrote. “Like who does this? Especially this being his first big solo performance since you’d think he’ll be a lot more humble and self reflective smh.”

"Not one fuck was given. Like nothing ever happened and he didn’t incite a rage and 10 deaths at his last show. :(" another said. Someone else added: "No respect for the victims of Astroworld at all, this isn’t cute it’s actually sickening."

Another user commented: "My man you don’t want to remind us of how your ragers go…"

One more wrote: "I feel so bad for Kylie. Fr fr if I saw this behaviour I would legit be scared. He’s behaving like a maniac. The last time this man raged, people got killed. This isn't 'cool' or 'edgy' in the slightest."

"I get the hype after performing and the adrenaline and endorphins. But I don't know why she would share this. She's trying to create this happy family reformed Travis image and posting videos of him hitting doors and raging isn't really a good look given Astro," one Reddit user said. Another replied: "Wasn’t raging the whole reason the Astroworld happened? This is in such poor taste."

In addition to calling out the bizarre decision to share the video after the Astroworld tragedy, people pointed out that Travis seemingly blanked Kylie while she was filming.

“Embarrassing. He walked straight past her too with 0 acknowledgement,” one person observed. Someone else echoed: “One thing I noticed is he didn’t even glance at Kylie. It’s your moment and you don’t even acknowledge the one person who cares about you the most? Biggest supporter? Not even a glance or a smile. Big oof.”

Another user wrote: “Just slides right by Kylie. Embarrassing and disrespectful.🤡” One more claimed: “It feels like he gets off on acting passive around her. He seems so determined to ignore her or play down their relationship as much as possible. I think he just likes having her around as a trophy?”

Someone else commented: “He looks like that random immature guy someone invited to the party who can't handle his alcohol and starts showing off.”

“So much second hand embarrassment when he tried to beat that door up 😅,” another added. And one more concluded: “Truly embarrassing for her life and soul. Why would you post this of the man who you had TWO children with?! Girl. No.”

As well as Stormi, Travis and Kylie share a 6-month-old son whose name they have yet to announce.

The behind-the-scenes video of Travis raging isn’t the only time that he has been called out for being disrespectful in the wake of Astroworld.

Back in February, the star sparked backlash after Kanye West publicly demanded that singer Billie Eilish apologize to Travis after she stopped a concert to help a fan who was struggling to breathe.

Billie did not mention Travis at all in the show, but the stark comparison of how she stopped to help the crowd compared to Travis’s Astroworld performance reignited the discussion around the festival.

Ye posted a screenshot of an article following the discourse to his Instagram page and told Billie to apologize to Travis. Travis seemingly showed his agreement with Ye’s stance by liking the post.

This response saw him get accused of having “no remorse” toward the victims of Astroworld, and many said that him liking the post was “disrespectful” and “incredibly offensive” toward the victims’ families.

Also in February, it was reported that almost 400 individually filed lawsuits against Travis, Live Nation — the company responsible for organizing Astroworld — and others, had been combined into one giant case.

The joint motion represents almost 2,800 victims who were affected by the tragedy, and just one judge will oversee all of the cases as thousands of victims seek billions of dollars in total damages.

Meanwhile, Travis is set to begin a residency at Las Vegas nightclub Zouk next month.

UPDATE:

This post was updated to reflect that there are additional defendants in the lawsuits against Travis Scott and Live Nation.
