The sister of one of the climbers killed on Mount Everest following a massive earthquake in Nepal announced his death with a heartbreaking Instagram post.

Dan Fredinburg's sister Megan posted the photo announcing his death to his own Instagram account, saying "this morning our Dan suffered from a major head injury and didn't make it."

She added, "All our love and thanks to those who shared this life with our favorite hilarious strong willed man. He was and is everything to us."

Fredinburg, who was an executive at Google, described himself as an "adventurer." He had been chronicling his Everest climb on his Instagram account.

A Google spokesperson confirmed in a statement to BuzzFeed News that Fredinburg was among the victims, calling him a "long-time member" of its Privacy team.

Fredinburg's climbing group posted on its website that two of its other team members suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the quake and subsequent avalanche.

Fredinburg was the ex-boyfriend of actor Sophia Bush, who posted a heartbreaking tribute to him on her own Instagram page. The pair broke up in 2014, according to People.

Fredinburg was one of at least 10 people who died on the world's highest mountain after the avalanche. More than 1,000 people are confirmed dead in the earthquakes, with the death toll expected to rise.
