Police officers shot and killed a man at the Port Columbus International Airport in Ohio after a reported confrontation in the departure area, according to multiple media reports.

10TV reported that officers responded to the scene after a report of an officer in trouble.

Authorities said the incident was sparked by a confrontation between a tow truck driver and an unknown individual.

David Whitaker, vice president of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, told the Associated Press that the suspect did not fire at the police officers.

The airport said on its official Twitter account that the a bomb squad was also at the scene examining the man's vehicle.

Columbus Bomb Squad is processing the victim's vehicle. Concourse C checkpoint is closed temporarily.
