Watchdog: "American Sniper" Spurs Rise In Hateful Rhetoric Against Muslims

A civil rights group is calling on Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood to come out against the racist comments that have emerged on social media from some moviegoers.

An Arab-American civil rights group has written letters to American Sniper director Clint Eastwood and star Bradley Cooper asking them to take a stand against racist remarks spawned from the war film.

The group pointed to social media, where users have posted racial slurs and taunts against Muslims after claiming to have watched the film.

American Sniper has me wanting to go shoot some ragheads

If you haven't seen american sniper your an unamerican raghead

Only true Americans go watch American Sniper and love it bc if you don't you need to go over there & be a damn raghead & stop following me

The group said it believes Cooper and Eastwood could use their influence to “quell the danger facing our community.”

The group called for a social media campaign using the #AmericanSniper hashtag to call "on Eastwood, Cooper, and the public to stand together against bigotry," the statement said.

The group added it is working with the FBI and local law enforcement to address the threats.

American Sniper tells the story of Chris Kyle, the most deadly sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle served four tours in Iraq.
