A Nine-Week-Old Bunny Rabbit Was Killed Live On Danish Radio

His name was Allan. He was killed to emphasize how people hypocritically only care about "cute" animals, the Radio24syv station said, but some listeners have called for a boycott.

Radio24syv, a Danish public service radio station, has sparked huge criticism after one of its presenters killed a rabbit live on air on Monday morning to make a statement about animal rights.

Here's a video of Asger Juhl, the presenter, and Allan, the nine-week-old rabbit, that the station posted online beforehand.

Juhl clubbed the rabbit with a bicycle pump and later made a meal out of it, the station's chief executive confirmed in this interview with Sky News on Tuesday. Radio24syv posted this video on Monday, which seems to show the rabbit being cooked.

Several listeners said the rabbit was killed merely as a stunt to get ratings. Some said they would boycott the station or called for Juhl to be fired.

But others agreed with Juhl's point – that his action was no less cruel than a meat industry that kills animals everyday and faces little outcry.

Radio24syv put out this English-language statement on Tuesday, stressing that their presenter killed the rabbit to get meat-eaters to have a debate about animal cruelty.
