A U.S. drone was reportedly shot down by Syrian forces in the port city of Latakia on Tuesday, according to news agencies in the region.
The Syrian Arab News Agency, or SANA, reported that Syrian air defenses shot down the unmanned aircraft.

The Syrian news agency, which is linked to the government's Ministry of information, offered few details of the incident.
"Syrian air defenses brought down a hostile U.S. surveillance plane in northern Latakia," the short bulletin read, Reuters reported.
CNN Türk cited military sources in Turkey who said the Predator drone flew out of an air force base in Incirlik, Turkey, about 100 miles north from where the unmanned aircraft went down.

Reuters cited an unnamed U.S. defense official who confirmed the military lost contact with one of its drones over Syria, but could not confirm it had been shot down.
It is the first such incident in Syria since U.S.-led coalition forces started carrying out air strikes against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, Reuters reported.
SANA's report on the downed drone came on the same day the U.S. military reported having conducted seven air strikes against ISIS targets within Syria. Another 12 strikes were made in Iraq.
According to Reuters, the strikes were carried out within a 24-hour period on Monday and Tuesday.
The drone that was downed in Latakia, however, was unarmed, CNN reported.
