Southwest Passengers Injured After Jet Veers Off Runway In Nashville

Airport officials said the plane veered off the runway Tuesday after landing at Nashville International Airport.

A Southwest Airlines jet veered off the runway at the Nashville International Airport Tuesday, injuring several passengers, officials reported.

The plane had already landed and was taxiing toward a terminal when it veered off the runway, Shannon Sumrall, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, told BuzzFeed News.

Fire officials initially said they three people suffered minor injuries.

Our department transported 3 people to Summit after a Southwest flight apparently rolled off a runway. Only minor injuries, fortunately.

About an hour later, the department said a total of eight passengers were taken to nearby hospitals with, "mostly bumps and bruises."

Passengers posted pictures on social media of the jet and emergency personnel responding. Some images appeared to show an emergency slide deployed on one side of the plane.

Southwest Airlines officials told BuzzFeed News there were 133 passengers and five crew members on board.

The plane, flight 31, originated from Houston Hobby Airport in Texas.

"We are currently working to support their needs," the airline said in a statement.
