The Cat Who Fought Off A Dog To Save An Autistic Boy Just Won The "Hero Dog" Award

Tara the cat is now the dog of the year.

That's Tara, a 7-year-old tabby, and her human, autistic 6-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo.

Last May, Jeremy was playing in his driveway when a neighbor's dog came up and attacked him.

Tara came running and chased the dog down the street.

Jeremy had to received eight stitches. Security camera footage of the attack was shared on YouTube and has been viewed millions of times.

To honor Tara's bravery, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Los Angeles presented her with the 33rd Annual National Hero Dog Award.

They scratched out the word "dog" from the award and wrote in "cat."

"The selection committee decided that a cat this spectacular should be the National Hero Dog," Madeline Bernstein, president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles, said.

Jeremy's father told the Associated Press that Tara and Jeremy have a special connection. If he starts crying Tara comes running.

Way to go, Tara!
