Teen Girl Accuses Her School Of Slut Shaming After Being Sent Home Because Her Jorts Were Too Short

"They can pick and choose at random… which girls are filling out their clothes more…"

Lindsey Stocker, an 11th-grader at Beaconsfield High School in Quebec, Canada, has made a huge stir recently by standing up to her school's dress code policy.

Last week, Stocker was sent home for wearing these jean shorts. Two vice principals decided that her shorts did not pass the "finger-length test," which the school asks female students to use to judge appropriate clothing.

Stocker then hung up this sign in her school. It was up for only a few minutes before it was pulled down by the administration. That didn't stop a picture of it from going viral on Twitter and Tumblr.

“There’s a huge rape culture that educational systems aren’t really paying attention to," Stocker told Global News. “They’re actually contributing to it without realizing it.”

Steven Colpitts, schools director for the Lester B. Pearson School Board, released a statement about the incident, saying that Stocker should have known better.

"It needs to be clear that this is always an opportunity for the school to make it a learning situation for the students... To sensitize them about hypersexualization, which is often a topic that is discussed and the students are well aware of."

According to the Beaconsfield administration, Stocker was suspended not just for the shorts, but for a series of infractions.

Stocker isn't alone, however, in challenging high school dress codes for teenage girls. Another similar campaign went viral on Tumblr last month.

The student at Monarch Park Collegiate Institute in Toronto who took the photos told BuzzFeed that the principal at their school took down the flyers, as well.

Judging by reactions on social media though, Stocker is probably not the last high schooler to speak up about the implications of high school dress codes.

Currently ranting about how the school dress code is making us a rape culture

It's summer, girls are gonna wear shorts and tank tops, dress code not allowing that is only perpetuating rape culture.

If you don't know what rape culture is, dresscode is a perfect example of it.

how about we stop over sexualizing women's legs and shoulders!!! this dress code is #rapeculture!!!!
