Twitter user Phillip Hillman snapped photos Tuesday of a mystery man shoveling the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

His friend Gabrielle Daniels picked up the photo and started the #WhoShoveledTheFinishLine hashtag.

Which quickly started trending.

Geolocated Instagrams didn't help identify this mysterious hero, unfortunately.

And there were tons of theories circulating. It also seemed like there was a good chance there was more than one shoveler!

Still, the small gesture spread all over the internet.

Even the Boston Police got in on the search.

The shoveler's identity has been confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

Back Bay Social, a neighborhood restaurant in Boston's Back Bay, confirmed for BuzzFeed News that the unnamed shoveler was actually one of their bartenders.

.@BackBaySocial confirms for BuzzFeed News that bartender Chris Laudani is responsible for shoveling off the Marathon finish line.
