A Danish journalist sparked outrage on Twitter when he tweeted a photo of a group of Israelis on a hilltop cheering and applauding bombing of the Gaza Strip.
The picture, posted by Middle East correspondent Allan Sørensen on Wednesday, was shared by thousands on people across the world.
Sørensen said that it showed a kind of "cinema", and that people were "clapping when blasts are heard". He said he saw people taking popcorn up on to the hill with chairs.
The picture was taken in the Israeli town of Sderot, which lies less than a mile from the Gaza border and has borne the brunt of rocket fire from Gaza for over a decade. Healthcare workers say that over half the children living in Sderot have post-traumatic stress disorder. Sørensen said he believed the gathering "wasn't to provoke anyone", and that "no one there thought they were doing anything untoward".
