Ron Paul refused to engage in the squabble over Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich's involvement with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac tonight, saying "that subject really doesn't interest me a whole lot. The question is what are we going to do about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."
But his campaign has other ideas. Directly before Paul said that, the campaign sent out a press blast slamming Gingrich, Romney and even Rick Santorum on issues related to Fannie and Freddie.
Titled "Three of a Kind: The Fannie/Freddie Insider Connection," the email picks apart the other three candidates one by one, saying that "we know Gingrich was a paid lobbyist for Freddie Mac," that Santorum's response on Freddie Mac at the last debate was "anything but true," and that "Romney’s closest advisers were in on the Freddie Mac deals!" It also includes photos.
Paul seemed, at times late last year, to be a traditional candidate in sync with a relatively traditional campaign.
Those days seem to be over.
